Utopianisti

Utopianisti is a group from Tampere, Finland led by multi-instrumentalist / composer / producer Markus Pajakkala. After releasing two highly acclaimed studio albums ”Utopianisti” (2011) and ”Utopianisti II” (2013), Pajakkala gathered a band of seven talented musicians to play the music live. The group got a flying start as they were booked to tour Mexico before they had done a single gig! A third album, "The Third Frontier" was conceived with this line-up, released in May 2016 through the band’s idol Pekka Pohjola's label Pohjola Records. Utopianisti knows no boundaries when exploring the realms of jazz and rock with a progressive, open-minded and sometimes avant-gardistic touch, often being named as the Frank Zappa or Pekka Pohjola of our times. The band delivers a set of musical fireworks that makes you sweat from even listening!

Utopianisti has performed on many Finland’s leading venues and festivals, e.g. the legendary Pori Jazz and Tampere Jazz Happening festivals. They’ve also toured Mexico with Diablo Swing Orchestra in 2014. Pajakkala has released a spin-off album ”Brutopianisti” in 2017 that contains extreme avantcore music fusing metal and free jazz.

Utopianisti and Pajakkala have worked with the likes of Black Motor, two-time Juno Award winner Jon Ballantyne, Mr. Fastfinger, Stam1na, Waltari, Pharaoh Pirttikangas, Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha, Tero Hyväluoma & Esko Järvelä, Ismaila Sané, accomplished classical singers Waltteri Torikka and Suvi Väyrynen and several top artists in Finnish pop, jazz, folk and metal. Pajakkala’s day job is writing and producing music for the world’s leading music education app Yousician. The drummer for the band, Rolf Pilve, also plays in accomplished Finnish metal bands Stratovarius and Wintersun.

マルチ楽器プレイヤー・作曲家・プロデューサー Markus Pajakkala(マルクス・ パヤッカラ)率いるフィンランド、タンペレを拠点とするグループ。評価の高い二枚の スタジオ・アルバムをリリースした後、ライヴで演奏するために7人のミュージシャン を集めた。最初、本国で一回も演奏していなかったにもかかわらずメキシコ・ツアーが 決まったといういわくつき。三枚目のアルバム “The Third Frontier” がそのライ ヴ・メンバーで制作され、Pekka Pohjola (ペッカ・ポーヨラ)のレーベル Pohjola Recordsより2016 年 5月にリリースされた。プログレッシヴで何物にもとらわれない、 時にはアヴァンギャルドな味付けをしてジャズとロックを探求する彼らに限界はない。 現代のフランク・ザッパ、或いはペッカ・ポーヨラと呼ばれる所以だ。聴いているだけ で熱くなる音楽的爆発や、美しく、メロディックな極め付きハーモニーを作り出す。
伝説的な Pori Jazz Festival や Tampere Jazz Happeningといったフィンランドの 名だたる会場やフェスティヴァルで演奏している。これまで Black Motor、Jon Ballantyne、Mr. Fastfinger、Stam1na、Waltari、Cosmo Jones Beat Machine、 Pharaoh Pirttikangas、Ismaila Sane、Liljan Loisto、更にはクラシック歌手 Waltteri Torikka や Suvi Vaeyrynen の他、フィンランドのポップ、ジャズ、 フォーク、メタルのトップ・ミュージシャンとコラボレーションをしている。
Markus Pajakkala は何千万人のユーザーがいる Yousicianという音楽教育アプリの ための作曲もしている。バンドのドラマー Rolf Pilve はフィンランドのメタル・ バンド Stratovarius のメンバーでもある。
