Weekend Guitar Trio
Weekend Guitar Trio was formed in 1993 after Robert Jürjendal’s participation at a Guitar Craft Course in Germany. It consists of Robert Jürjendal, Tõnis Leemets and Mart Soo, with backgrounds in classical guitar/Guitar Craft method, electronic music, and jazz/free improvisation, respectively. They have performed at countless jazz festivals all over Europe, had compositions written specially for them by Estonian and German composers, and presented their own compositions at contemporary music festivals.WGT has released 6 albums under their own name and is featured on many more. The Estonian Radio and the Estonian National TV have produced programs about them and their music has also been aired on BBC 3 and numerous other European radio stations.
Incorporating an arsenal of effects, a variety of extended techniques and a few choice pieces of peripheral hardware, WGT creates striking soundscapes. The players read off of each other with natural ease and know how to coax unique moods from their instruments. They cross the borders of jazz, rock, traditional and electronic music, throwing in enough stylistic changes to insure Zero Listener Ennui. At their concert you might feel as if in curved space, where the laws of 3-dimensional physics are not valid. The program is different each time, depending on the venue, the atmosphere, the sound … and the audience.
Having played together for more than 15 years, they have plenty of tracks to choose from. But they always throw in at least some freely improvised – or “spontaneously composed” – music as well, sometimes using live electronics in a pre-arranged way, sometimes in the “let’s-push-this-button-and-see-what-happens” style.

Weekend Guitar Trioは1993年、Robert Jürjendalがドイツでの Guitar Craft コース（King Crimson の Robert Fripp が主宰していた変則チューニング・ギターを使った演奏集団のレッスン）を終えた後にエストニアで結成された。メンバーの Robert Jürjendal はクラシック・ギターとGuitar Craft メソッド、Tõnis Leemets はエレクトロニック音楽、Mart Soo はジャズとフリー・インプロヴィゼーションのバックグラウンドを持っていた。これまで数えきれないほどヨーロッパのジャズ・フェスティヴァルに出演した他、エストニアやドイツの作曲家によってバンドのために曲が書かれている。また、現代音楽フェスティヴァルでもオリジナル曲を披露している。
これまでバンドでアルバム 6 枚をリリース。バンドのためにエストニア・ラジオ放送局やエストニア国営テレビが番組を制作。イギリスのBBC 放送や他のヨーロッパのラジオ局でも数知れず曲が流れている。
エストニアやイギリスのトップ DJ、伝統音楽家（カンネルやバグパイプ）、歌唱隊（グレゴリアン・チャント・アンサンブル Vox Clamantis からエストニア男声合唱団まで）、多くの著名なインプロヴィゼーション演奏家 – ノルウェーの Jan Bang (live sampling)、Jaco Pastorius の盟友 Brian Melvin (percussion)、 ドイツ生まれでバンド Stick Men のメンバーでもある多才な Markus Reuter (touch guitar)、アメリカの動物音楽家でジャズ・ミュージシャン/哲学者 David Rothenberg (clarinet) や Robert Fripp 夫人でもあるイギリスの Toyah Willcox (vocals) とのコラボレーションで知られている。2011年、エストニアで開催された Punkt フェスティヴァル（元祖ノルウェー・フェスの「出張」）では Erik Honoré、Eivind Aarset と Arve Henriksen によってWeekend Guitar Trio のライヴ演奏が、演奏後直ちにリミックスされた。
いろいろなエフェクト類、様々なテクニック、選び抜かれた周辺機器を利用することにより、Weekend Guitar Trio は驚くべき音の世界を創り出す。メンバーは互いに気心知れ、どのように演奏すればユニークなムードを楽器で作り出せるのか熟知している。ジャズ、ロック、伝統曲やエレクトロニック・ミュージックの壁を行き来し、オーディエンスを飽きさせない。会場、雰囲気、音の出方などにより、ライヴは毎回プログラムが変わる。
